Roy King

Roy King, a dedicated railroad clerk with Norfolk Southern Railroad for 37 years, passed away peacefully at his home in Middleton, Tennessee on November 28, 2023. Born on June 26, 1938, in Pocahontas, Tennessee, Roy was the son of John Edwin King and Ola Mae Wooten King. He had two brothers, James and Jerrell King, who preceded him in death.

Roy's career as a railroad clerk spanned nearly four decades, during which he displayed unwavering commitment and professionalism. His colleagues respected him for his diligence and attention to detail. Roy's contribution to the Norfolk Southern Railroad will always be remembered.

Outside of work, Roy had a love for NASCAR racing. He enjoyed watching races and attending live events whenever possible. Another favorite pastime of his was meeting up with friends at the local cafe to indulge in good conversation over a cup of coffee. Roy cherished these moments of camaraderie and considered them an indispensable part of his social life.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Middleton.

Roy's family was always at the center of his world. He is survived by his loving wife, Hulene Cox King, whom he married on May 29, 1958, in Corinth, MS; his daughter, Dr. Kathryn Redditt of Oakland; and his son, Greg King (Bailey) of Corinth, MS. Roy was also a proud grandfather to Laura Potts (Evan) of Memphis and delighted in being a great-grandfather to twin boys Richard Ellis Potts and Rowan Earle Potts.

In addition to his immediate family members, Roy leaves behind numerous friends who will forever hold him dear to their hearts. Among them is his nephew Johnny King of Murfreesboro.  Memorial contributions in his name may be sent to Middleton First Baptist Church.

Roy's innate kindness, unwavering work ethic, and love for his family and friends will forever remain alive in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his dedication to his profession, his love for NASCAR, and the warmth he brought to every gathering at the cafe. May his soul find eternal peace.
