ROSA LEE CLAY
was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on January 14, 1917 the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Ora Etta Phillips Downing.
On March 14, 1936 she was united in marriage to Herbert Nolen Clay, who preceded his wife in death on September 10, 1997.
Mrs. Clay was a machine operator for Brown Shoe Company for 26 years. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening and enjoyed her grandchildren.
Mrs. Clay was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Henderson, Tennessee. She lived in Hardin County until 1994 and then moved to Chester County.
Mrs. Clay departed this life on November 29, 2010 at the Chester County Healthcare in Henderson, Tennessee at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 15 days.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Sue Franks and her husband Odell of Savannah, Tennessee and Mary Nell Castellaw and her husband Ed of Germantown, Tennessee
2 sons, Paul Clay of Goodlettsville, Tennessee and Ronnie Clay and his wife, Brenda of Jacks Creek, Tennessee
9 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren
one sister, Lillian Shepard of Marcellus, Michigan and one brother, Herschel Downing of Waddy, Kentucky
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by one great grandchild, Christa Clay, one sister, Thelma Copeland and one brother, Hassell Downing.
