RONALD LANE TALBOTT

June 30, 1949 – August 18, 2023

Ronald Lane Talbot was born June 30, 1949, at Webb-Williamson Hospital in Jackson, TN to the late L.E. Talbott and Faye McIntyre Talbott. He was raised in Finger, TN and attended elementary school there. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1967. That fall, he was a member of the first class of students at the newly opened Jackson State Community College.

After completing Jackson State, he went on to further his education at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, TN where he studied both mechanical engineering and Plant and Soil Science. He was a member of Universities Southeastern Conference winning soil judging team.

In December of 1973 after having worked his way through college and earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Plant and Soil Science, he returned home to Finger, and began a career in business working in sale at Montgomery Ward in Jackson, TN until he bought and took over operating the family business, Talbott’s Grocery, which he ran from 1978 to 1988. He also farmed from 1976 to 1996. He owned and operated a hog farm consisting of 2,000 animals with the help of his two sons. From 1997 until his retirement in 2015. He stayed busy buying and renovating older houses and other properties. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was happiest working outside with his hands doing yard work, crossword puzzles, and three dimensional sudoku puzzles.

Ronald met Diane Sowell on January 28, 1967. They were married on October 18, 1967, and remained faithfully devoted to each other through good and bad times, facing all obstacles side by side for 55 years and 10 months, until the day of his passing.

They had three children Tonja Mason, John Talbott wife Michelle, and Bryan Talbott wife Andrea.

He had seven grandchildren whom he loved very much, Eric Talbott, Rachel Talbott, Lauren Talbott, Eli Talbott, Ava Talbott, Claire Talbott, and Grace Talbott.

He is also survived by his sister Deborah Talbott Harrington and brother-in-law Paul Harrington III and their sons Paul Harrington IV, Nicholas Harrington, and James Harrington.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Michael Talbott who died in 1947.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday August 25, 2023, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with John Talbott, Don Lipford, and Bryan Talbott officiating. Burial will follow at Finger Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday at Crook Avenue from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
