She was born and reared in Winston County, MS the daughter of Ralph Roeland, Jr. and the late Mildred Whitehead Roeland. She graduated from Nanih Waiya High School in 1971. She also graduated from Union University in Jackson. She had lived in Lexington, TN, New Orleans, Sharon, TN and Smithville, MS before making her home in the Milledgeville-Enville area for the past several years. She was working as a case worker for the Department of Children’s Services in Henderson County. She had also taught school in New Orleans and had done substitute teaching in McNairy County.
She is survived by two sons Wendell Gene Smith, II and Corey Smith both of Ripley, TN; her father Ralph Roeland of Havelock, NC; two brothers Ralph Edward Roeland of Gainesboro, TN and Roy Roeland of Louisville, MS; and also a friend and companion Tom Harwell of Enville.
