ROBERTA R. NEILL
was born February 16, 1910 in Hardin County, TN, to the late Frank and Roberta Riddell. She attended Walker Elementary School in Savannah, Gilbert Elementary School in Florence, and Florence Junior High School. She graduated from Central High School in Savannah in 1929 and attended Freed Hardeman University, where she received her teaching certificate. Mrs. Neill began her teaching career at Willoughby Springs where she rode a horse side-saddle to school. She also taught at Plummers Chapel and in a one -room schoolhouse at Burnt Church. In 1931, she married James R. Neill and raised her family in the Burnt Church community. She was the oldest living member of Turkey Creek Baptist Church.
She was a loving mother and grandmother, and was always an example to her daughters and granddaughters of how to be a lady. She was also a wonderful cook, and was known for her boiled custard , angel food cake, and homemade rolls. Her humor and kindness will be missed.
Mrs. Neill was preceded in death by her husband James R. Neill; sisters, Louise Deford, Agnes Bryant, Margaret Watts, Nona Jean Sheppard; brothers, Frank J. Riddell, Bill Riddell and Parker Riddell.
She is survived by her son, John Neill (Tammy), Savannah, TN; daughters, Reba Oakley (Trigger), Florence, AL and Ann Harrison (Herby), Florence, AL; grandchildren, Tammy McInish (Paul), Laura Hall (Harold), Suzanne Huckaba (Randy), Allison Keener ( Duane), Julie Robinson (Dale), Hope Craft (Lee), Cinnamon Barrier and Brennen Barrier and 13 great grandchildren
