Mr. Stallings passed away early Wednesday morning at his home.
The widower of Judy Carole Willoughby Stallings, who died on May 19, 2011, he was a businessman and former member of the Tennessee House of Representatives. He was born to M.L. and Pearl Wheeler Stallings, both of whom preceded him in death and in 1953 opened a Ford tractor dealership (Stallings Tractor Company), which he operated until 1985. He served our county on the County Commission in the late 1960's and in 1974 was urged to run for State Representative. He won and continued to serve for 16 years until 1990. During his time in the legislature, he served as chairman of the Agriculture Committee. For many years, he was an active member of the Bolivar Lions Club and was instrumental in the construction of the current Bolivar Lions Club field. He was an avid outdoorsman, an outstanding hunter and fisherman. Mr. Stallings was a member of Bolivar First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Wilhite (Rick) of Auburn, AL and Janet Stallings of Mayfield, KY; three sons, Sam Stallings (Connie) of Bolivar, Tim Stallings (Cheryl) of Oak Ridge and Ron Stallings (Lisa) of Bolivar; a brother, Martin Stallings (Martha) of Cloverport; and a sister in law, Faye Stallings of Whiteville; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Don Stallings and a grandson, Richard Wilhite.
