Robert Howard Sanford, loving grandfather, father,
husband and friend to many, died Sunday, October 28, 2012 at
Jackson Madison County General Hospital after a brief illness.
Howard was 87.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11A.M., Friday, November 2,
2012 in the First United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the
Henderson City Cemetery.
Howard was born and raised in Henderson, TN the son of Robert
and Mary Sanford. He graduated from Chester County High School
and in 1944 joined the Navy and served as a sonar engineer in the
Atlantic theatre. After the war Howard attended the University of South
Carolina, Princeton University and finally Tennessee University in
Nashville where he graduated with an engineering degree.
Howard married his first wife, Leda Giovannetti, in 1954. Howard and
Leda had two children, Robert and Scott. Howard worked for over
thirty years as a structural engineer in New York. During that time he
traveled the world on business visiting countries such as Egypt, Saudi
Arabia, Afghanistan, Iran and the Philippines.
In 1984 Howard married his childhood sweetheart, Julia McDonald McAdams Sanford, and after Howard retired they returned to
Henderson.
Howard had a love for Jazz, food, staying active and helping people.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Henderson as
an usher, member of the Chancel Choir and Bell Choirs, and served
as Co-Chairman of the Building Commission.
He is survived by his sons, Robert, of Sausalito, CA, and Scott, of
San Rafael, CA; grandchildren, Miles and Monica of San Rafael, CA;
his sister, Louise Finley (husband Walter) of Jackson, TN; nieces
Suzannah Yanessa and Melissa Kimes; and step-daughter Julianne
Edwards of Sarasota, FL.
