Robert Floyd Plunk was born June 28, 1921 in McNairy County, Tennessee the son of the late Uless and Laura Frances Floyd Plunk.
He was first united in marriage to Velma Smith. To this union were born six children. On November 22, 1997, he was united in marriage to Mary Helen Green Wilbanks.
Mr. Plunk was a retired truck driver for Caterpillar in Peoria, IL, where he was active in the United Auto Workers. He attended the Liberty Methodist Church in Bethel Springs, Tennessee, and was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theatre. He loved his family and friends, and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Mr. Plunk departed this life on November 12, 2008 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 87 Years, 4 Months, 15 Days. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Mary Helen Green Wilbanks Plunk of Selmer, TN; two daughters: Edith Martin and husband George of Morris Chapel, TN and Doris Hamilton of Bethel Springs, TN; four sons: Buford Plunk and wife Candy and Neal Plunk and wife Brenda, all of Bethel Springs, TN, James Plunk and wife Monica of Finger, TN and Max Plunk and wife Carolyn of Corinth, MS; a sister, Fay McCann of Bethel Springs, TN; 17 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren; and his former wife and mother of his children, Velma Smith Plunk Gettel of Bethel Springs, TN.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Plunk was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Mitchell Rives; two sisters, Lydia Holland and Willie Gage; and a brother, Calvin Plunk.
