ROBERT CHARLES McLAUGHLIN
Henderson, TN: Robert Charles McLaughlin, age 81, passed away Thursday evening August 14, 2014, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was born July 30, 1933, in Scottsboro, Alabama, the son of the late Robert Dixon and Elizabeth Evans McLaughlin. He graduated from Jackson County High School in Scottsboro and from Florence State Teachers College (now the University of North Alabama). He entered the Navy right out of high school and served aboard the USS Bairoko (CVE-115) Carrier. He served four years. The carrier was involved in hydrogen bomb testing.
After his military service he worked for Jackson County Pensions and Securities Office, now the Department of Human Resources, for 26 years, retiring in 1989. He and his wife Betty moved to Henderson in 1998. He was a member of the Finger Church of Christ.
Mr. McLaughlin is survived by a son, John McLaughlin and wife Debbie; a daughter, Beth Sanford and husband Joel; four grandchildren, Ethan and Bishop McLaughlin and Abigail and Lily Sanford all of Henderson; two brothers, Albert Ray McLaughlin and Roy Leo McLaughlin both of Scottsboro, AL and a sister, Mary Sue McLaughlin, of Madison, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty Sue Williams McLaughlin in 2012 and a granddaughter, Sara Beth Sanford in 2003.
Funeral services will be 11:30 AM Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at the Broad Street Church of Christ in Scottsboro, AL with Nesbitt Sanford officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery near Woodville, AL.
The family will receive friends at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel in Henderson from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, and on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the funeral time at the Broad Street Church of Christ in Scottsboro.
