ROBERT ‘BOB’ LEWELLYN
Henderson: Robert Lewellyn, age 72, retired general plant manager with ITT Grinnell, died Saturday, December 1, 2007 at Jackson General Hospital.
Mr. Lewellyn was born and reared in Wheeling, West Virginia, the son of the late Robert Osborne and Gladys Ruth Davis Lewellyn. He graduated from Tridelphia High School in Wheeling, WV in 1952 and later Horton Finance School in Pennsylvania, and received his engineering degree and a certificate of electrical engineering degree from Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio.
He served as general plant manager for ITT Grinnell of plants in Henderson, TN, Oceanside, CA and Chicago, IL and retired in 1988 after having served 35 years with the plants. He was instrumental in moving the ITT Grinnell plant from Warren, OH to Henderson in 1968. After his retirement from Grinnell he served as President and CEO of Specialty Products of Henderson.
He was a member of the Sanford Hill Baptist Church having served as a trustee of the church for many years and a member of the choir.
He was a charter member of the Henderson Elks Lodge, and a member of the Ruritan Club of Jacks Creek. He had served as President of the West Tennessee JTPA and The Industrial and Manufacturing Association.
He enjoyed bowling, boating, watching football, and sitting on the banks of the Tennessee River and playing with his favorite puppy, Tinkerbell.
He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 55 years; Patsy Phillips Lewellyn, and two daughters; Pam Nash and husband Tim of Jackson and Sandy South of Henderson. He has four grandchildren; Shawn Nash and wife Misti of Jacksonville, NC, Nathan Nash and wife Mary of Nashville, Brandon South and Abby South both of Henderson. He has four great grandchildren; Colton, Tacker, Hallie, and Tristan Nash. He was preceded in death by a daughter Judith Lynn Lewellyn in 1953.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday from the chapel of Casey Funeral Home with Bro. Elmer Cole and Bro. Glenn Harris officiating and burial will follow in the Henderson City Cemetery. The Sanford Hill Men’s Sunday School Class and their wives will sit together as honoraries during the service.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again Tuesday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Sanford Hill Baptist Church Building Fund or the Exchange Club-Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse.
