Mr. Hailey was born and reared in Mercer TN, the son of the late James Neely and Annie Barham Hailey. He attended Mercer and Madison Co. schools and farmed as a young man. He was married to Willie Mae Hunter in 1938. He was a Master Electrician and worked Defense work during WWII and they made their home in Jackson after the war. Mr. Hailey retired in 1980 and in 1995 they moved to Henderson. Mr. Hailey was a hunter and fisherman all of his life. He was employed by Townsend Electric for 38 years was a member of the I.B.E.W. for 65 years. While leaving in Jackson he was a member of the West Jackson Baptist Church for 50 years and currently was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henderson.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Willie Mae Hunter Hailey, a son Dr. Max Lavoyd Hailey and wife Sarah of Tulahoma and a daughter Mary Ann Callis and husband Charles of Germantown. He has four grandchildren Melinda Crivello of Dallas, Hunter Callis of Henderson, Andrea Cantrell of Knoxville and Heather Elkins of Little Rock, AR. and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Carol Jane Hailey in 1940.
