Rita M. Cox

Mrs. Cox passed away on Saturday morning, July 2, 2016, at St. Frances Hospital in Bartlett, TN.

A native of Marksville, LA, she was born Wednesday, September 17, 1930, the daughter of the late Eloi and Josephine Bonnette Mayeaux. She was also preceded in death by 10 sisters and brothers. She attended Marksville High School and, at age 18, she moved to Memphis where she lived until 2000. At that time, she moved to Jackson, TN.

While in Memphis, she worked in shipping & receiving with Plough, Inc. Mrs. Cox retired from Plough after 30 years of service. In her younger years, she attended Macon Road Baptist Church and in her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, sewing and reading the Bible.

Her survivors include two daughters, Deborah L. (Bill) Crocker of Bolivar; and Cassandra L. (Boyd) Vanhorn of Clarksburg, WVA; one son, Calvin M. (Nancy) Cox, Jr. of Memphis; a sister, Lucy Holden of Pierre Port, LA; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer Crocker, Rebecca (Michael) McSwain, Lisa Cox, Apryl (Hayden) Jackson, Stephanie (Adam) Shelton, Nina Weatherford and Derek Scharf; and 3 great-grandchildren, Isaac Crocker, Miller McSwain, Lawson Shelton, Brendan Weatherford and Alex Marks.
