Richard David Woods

May 6, 1935 — August 23, 2007

Mr. Woods died August 23 at his home. He was well known and respected as a professional Tennessee Walking Horse trainer, being active in the Mid South Horse Show Assoc., Walking Horse Trainer Assoc. and Mississippi Walking Horse Assoc. and was awared the Mid South Trainer of the Year in 1991. He served in the US Army from 1957-58 and was stationed in Germany and was a member of Holmes Memorial Methodist Church. His family stated that his passion was training kids in walking horses. Survivors include his wife, Ann Harris Woods; a daughter and her friend, Shannon Woods and Steve Walker, III of Monticello, Fla.; two sons and their wives, Shawn and Jennie Woods, Shea and Angela 'Tootie' Woods, all of Hickory Valley; two stepchildren, Cindy Weddington of Eads and Joe Johnson of Memphis; four grandchildren, Kristopher and his wife, Lisa Woods, Brandy, Zach and Shelby Woods; and three step grandchildren, Ben, Sara and Chip Weddington.
