Richard Lynn Sain

February 6, 1950 — October 30, 2022

Richard Lynn Sain was born February 6, 1950 in Somerville, TN to the late Walter
Wickliff and Laura Savannah (Trimm) Sain, the youngest of nine children. In 1969
Richard graduated from Frayser High School, Memphis Tennessee, and continued his
education at Freed-Hardeman College where he received his A.A. Degree and Third
Year Bible Certificate in 1972. He completed his education in 1973 receiving his B.A. in
Bible and Speech from Harding University.

On June 21, 1974, Richard married Susan Thomas and began his full-time work with
the Smyrna church of Christ in Cookeville, TN. Over the next few years, Richard served
many congregations including Adairville Church of Christ in Adairville, KY, Highland Avenue church of Christ in Columbia, TN, Roxboro church of Christ in Roxboro, NC, and Birdwell Chapel church of Christ,
Cottontown, TN.

In 1987 the Sain family moved to Branford, Florida to work with the Burlington-Santa Fe
church of Christ where he served for 18 years before moving back to Tennessee, where
he ministered to the Gilt Edge church of Christ in Burleson. Richard finished his work in
full time ministry with service to the Whitwell church of Christ in Whitwell, TN and the
Berclair church of Christ in Memphis, TN.

In 2015, Richard and Susan moved to Henderson, TN, where Richard continued to
teach Bible class at the Estes church of Christ and the Chester County Senior group.
Richard was known for his heart of kindness and his love for children, especially his
own and his seven grandchildren. He had a ready smile, a loud laugh, and a heart of
gold. Richard was lovingly known as “Hambone” for his knee slapping entertainment to
all ages.

Richard is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan (Thomas) Sain, his sister Patricia
(Robert) King, and sister-in-law, Betty Sain, his children Trenton (Wendy) Sain, Amanda (Joshua) Horn, Thomas (Janet) Sain, and Lauren (Ryan) Malecha; 7 grandchildren, Gavin and Madelyn Sain,
Caleb and Colton Horn, Anthony Sain, and Jayce and Cohen Malecha.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Earl W. (Glyn) Sain,
Jewel E. (Olga) Sain, James B. (Ruth) Sain, J.W. Sain, sisters Ruby L. (Jack)
Newberry, Valeria M. (Karl) Sprout, Dorothy M. (Joe) Childs, and one son Ronald W.
Sain.

Pallbearers include nephews, Chad High, Eric Nichols, Robbie Nichols, Alan Thomas, Chris Thomas,
John M. Thomas, Trent Thomas, Tyler Thomas, David Sain, and Tim Sain.

Honorary pallbearers include the elders of Estes Church of Christ, Dan Ayers, Tony Hysmith, Gary Irwin, Jason Lockridge, Doug McDowell, John McLaughlin, Scott Miskelly, Kevin Moore and Paul Schwartz.

Service information is as follows:
Visitation at the Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson’s Crook Avenue Chapel on
Tuesday, November 1, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the Estes church of Christ on Wednesday, November 2,
2022 at 11:00 a.m. with the family receiving visitors from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
