Richard Neal Moore

Richard Neal Moore, former United States Marshall, departed this life on November 26, 2012, at the McNairy Regional Hospital in Selmer, TN. He was born on April 15, 1926, in McNairy County, TN, the son of the late J. D. and Jennie Miller Moore.



Richard attended McNairy County schools. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and served in the South Pacific. He attended Union University and later worked with Tennessee Game and Fish Commission in Rogersville, TN. He was appointed Deputy Marshall and advanced to United States Marshall for West Tennessee. Richard was involved in the beginning of school integrations at a high school in Little Rock, and also in Louisiana, Alabama and the University of Mississippi. He served twenty-four years of Government Service, retired on October 21, 1977, and returned to Selmer.



Richard assisted in coaching little league baseball teams. He and a friend also began training bird dogs and continued until his health failed. His dog won Dog of the Year at the National Field Dog Trial in 1986. Richard was president of Volunteer Shoot To Retrieve Club for ten years. He was an avid hunter, golfer, fisherman, bowler, and enjoyed traveling. He was a member of Court Avenue Cumberland Presbyterian Church.



Mr. Moore is survived by one sister, Mrs. Flakie Hunter and husband Alton of Selmer, TN; a niece, Mrs. Jennie Hunter Smith and husband Thomas of Atlanta, GA; a nephew, Dr. Lee Hunter and wife Mary and their children, Mary Charles and Trey, all of Columbia, TN; and many extended family and friends.
