Richard Otha (Big O) Horton

Richard Otha (Big O) Horton of Cypress Inn, TN was born June 15, 1927 in Cypress Inn, TN, the son of the late Luther Horton and Leona Jane Sherrills Horton Henson. He was united in marriage to Betty Ruth Berry on December 21, 1952. Mr. Horton was a retired truck driver with Oakley Logging,a member of Cypress Inn Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Scotts Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

He departed this life Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at ECM Hospital in Florence, Alabama at the age of 90 Years, 11 Months, 15 Days.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Ruth Horton of Cypress Inn, TN; daughter, Beverly Stooksberry, husband, Ray of Iron City, TN; grandchildren, Amanda Stooksberry, Amber Kinch, husband, John and Alisa Holt, husband, Jessie; great-grandchildren, Lydia and Lawson Holt, Ethan Kinch and Collin Botkin; daughter-in-law, Daina Horton; sisters, Lillian Montgomery of Cypress Inn, TN, Lucille Barkley of Waynesboro, TN and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Horton was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Richard Horton; brothers, Howard, Raymond, Leland and Billy Horton and stepfather, Edward Henson.

Services will be Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel, Collinwood, Tennessee, with Junior Overstreet, Tim Hanback and John E. Banks officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens, Collinwood, TN with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Steve Barkley, Kenneth Horton, Donnie Montgomery, G. L. Montgomery, Ross Pigg and Ricky West. Honorary pallbearers will be Lydia and Lawson Holt and Ethan Kinch.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 5 pm to 9 pm and Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 12 pm to service time at the funeral home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be given to Scott Chapel Freewill Baptist Church building fund.
