Richard Cullinane

December 6, 1928 — October 28, 2007

Mr. Cullinane died early Sunday morning, October 28, 2007, at his home near Saulsbury.



A native of Cork City, Ireland, he was the son of the late Richard and Elizabeth Erangey Cullinane. Mr. Cullinane had lived in America for the past 39 years and in Saulsbury the last 6 years. In 1968, he married the former Henrietta Jane Hankel, who survives. He was a citizen of the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland and France. A Roman Catholic in belief, he was a board member of the Hardeman County Humane Society and served in the British Bombadiers in World War 2. He worked as a machinist and also a plastic molding operator for Batas Corporation. He retired from Hewlett-Packard Corporation in Colorado after 30 years of service.



Mr. Cullinane was an amatuer boxer and fought Sugar Ray Robinson before turning professional. He was a two-time European Middleweight boxing champion. Among his hobbies were fishing, soccer, hockey, travelling and his pets.



In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sisters, Maureen Bend and Chrissy Carpenter, both of England, Lena Healy and Margaret O'Neill, both of Ireland; two brothers, Denis and Michel Cullinane, both of Ireland; and 21 nieces and nephews in England, Ireland and America.



He was preceded in death by his parent and a sister, Theresa Mulcahy of Ireland.
