He was born in Memphis February 29, 1924 and reared in Memphis, the son of the late John and Anna Rice Hockersmith Harty. He graduated Catholic High School in 1940 and entered the U.S. Navy in 1941, and served aboard ship in the Atlantic and the Pacific as an electronic technician. He then attended Tulane University for two years and reentered the Navy and stayed thirteen years earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
After the service he worked for Philco Electronics installing early warning systems around the world.
He was married to Ann Patterson in 1973 and they made their home in Memphis for thirty years. He was a self employed electronic repairman and also worked for S G & S Control Company. They moved to the Pinson area four years ago.
Mr. Hardy is survived by his wife, Ann Patterson Harty of Pinson; a step daughter, Susan Lord of Green Valley, IL and a step grandson Nathan Lord; four brothers, Pete Harty, Las Cruces, NM, Charlie Harty, Mike Harty and Richard Harty all of Memphis and a sister, Pauline Gerrior of Edgewater, MD.
He was preceded in death by, three brothers, John, Jimmy and Tom Harty and two sisters, Catherine Trippe and Dorothy Rose.
