Raymond Lee Thompson

Raymond Lee Thompson of Iron City, TN was born June 28, 1922 in Iron City, TN, the son of the late Lewis Albert and Laura Ann Martin Thompson.

He was united in marriage to Birdie Nell West on July 29, 1946 and served in the United States Army during WW II. He was a member of American Legion Post 254 and Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Thompson departed this life on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Waynesboro Health and Rehab in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 96 years, 11 months and 14 days.

He is survived by his wife, Birdie Nell West Thompson of Iron City, TN; three daughters, Leatrice Ann Demery of Savannah, TN, Katherine Nell Brison and husband, David of Collinwood, TN and Brenda Faye Allen of Iron City, TN; grandchildren, Kevin Copous, wife, Tammy, Rhonda Short and Brian Brison, wife, Brittney and granddaughter-in-law, Trisha Thompson; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Minnie Pearl Borden of Jonesboro, AR and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Johnathon Thompson; brothers, Charlie, Melvin, Bonnie, Mack and Samuel Thompson and sisters, Dorothy Liles, Mary ann Furman, Reba Chaney and Marie McBrayer.

Services will be held on June 8, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel, Collinwood, Tennessee with Greg Eaton officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens, Collinwood, Tennessee with military rites and Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, assisting the family. Visitation will be Friday, June 7, 2019 from 6 pm to 8 pm and Saturday, June 8, 2019 from 11 am to service time at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Copous, Brian Brison, Dewayne Borden, Cody Thompson, Jeff Borden and Randy Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will be Brock Laminack, Harold Thompson and Charles Thompson.
