Raymond Henry Brewington

RAYMOND HENRY BREWINGTON

was born on May 26, 1926 in the Walnut Grove Community of Hardin County, Tennessee, the son of Randall Emsley and Eula Gertrude Long Brewington. He attended school in Walnut Grove and Savannah, Tennessee. Raymond died on January 11, 2019 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 16 days.

On August 16, 1943, he married Geraldine Virginia Brown Brewington. In 1944 Raymond was drafted into the United States Army. After basic training in Arkansas and advanced jungle training in Hawaii, he was assigned as an infantryman in the 96th Infantry Division 383rd Regiment and fought in the Battle of Okinawa. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for action in the battle and the Combat Infantry Badge. After the war ended with the dropping of atomic bombs on Japan, he was stationed in Manila, Philippines as a Military Police officer until he returned to civilian life in 1946. Raymond was a member of the Savannah Masonic Lodge. He loved building furniture and was a very good handyman.

Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine on June 6, 1995. He is survived by his sons, Ronney Raymond Brewington (Ginny), Danny Sherrill Brewington (Lucy), Rickie Wade Brewington (Kathy); daughter, Jana Gayle Brewington Averett (Charles); 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Raymond was preceded in death by one sister, Bonnie Kate Harrison and two brothers, John Evans Brewington and Quenton DeLong Brewington.
