He was born in Chester County, the son of the late Donie and Myrtle Ozment Barnes. He graduated from J.B. Young High in 1944. He later attended West Tennessee Business College and Lambeth University in Jackson. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1945 until 1947 and later served one tour during the Korean conflict. He graduated from the Army Finance School in 1949. After service he lived in Joliet, IL for 27 years and was employed by Fisher Body General Motors . He was married to Dorothy Bradley March 1, 1974. They returned to TN in 1982. He was a member of the Bear Creek Methodist Church in Pinson. He was a avid Baseball Card Collector and antique Collector.He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Bradley Barnes of Jackson; two sisters, Marie Stewart (Paul E. Stewart, Sr.) of Jackson and Nina Oakley of Nashville and six nieces and nephews Linda Burgher (Lee), Ramona Vance (David), Sandra Matthews (Rick), Suzanne Kornguth, Paul Stewart, Jr. (Janet) and Ralph Stewart (Julia).
