Ray E. Qualls was born July 20, 1935 in Hardin County, Tennessee the son of the late Grady and Muriel Duncan Qualls.He was united in marriage to Shirley Gray on July 10, 1956.Mr. Qualls was a graduate of Central High School in Savannah, Tennessee. He attended the University of Tennessee at Martin, Union University in Jackson, and earned a Ph.D in Religious Studies from Jacksonville Theological Seminary. Mr. Qualls was the former owner and operator of Ray's Service Station on Highway 69 in Savannah, Tennessee. He had also worked with his father at the family-owned American Oil distributorship in Savannah. He and his wife had made their home in Iuka, Mississippi for the last 30 years. Mr. Qualls departed this life on October 21, 2010 in Tupelo, Mississippi at the age of 75 Years, 3 Months, 1 Day. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley (Gray) Qualls of Selmer, TN; a sister, Robbie Glover of Savannah, TN; and many extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Qualls was preceded in death by three sisters: Dorothy Thacker, Maxine Alexander, and Ruth Hinton; and a brother, G. C. Qualls.
