Bro. Ray Lovelady

Bro. Ray Lovelady, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated leader, passed away on September 13, 2024, at the age of 79 in Jackson, Tennessee. Born on February 21, 1945, in Sour Lake, Texas, he lived a life dedicated to service and faith.

A prominent figure in his community, Bro. Ray served as the Pastor at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he was a light to many. His spiritual leadership extended well beyond his role as pastor. He was also the Assistant Director of Hardeman County Emergency Management and served as Director of Hardeman County Ambulance Service for a decade. Additionally, Bro. Ray's commitment to public safety was evident in his service with both the Grand Junction and Hickory Valley Police Departments and his important role as a Juvenile Court Officer in Hardeman County.  He moved here approximately 50 years ago, shortly after marrying in Louisiana, and lived in Oxford, MS and Memphis for several years.

A proud veteran, Bro. Ray served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam conflict, exemplifying bravery and dedication to his country. His military service was a testament to his character and commitment to excellence.

In his personal life, Bro. Ray was married to Marylyn Lovelady for 55 wonderful years. He cherished their family, including daughter, Elizabeth Hensley and Bobby of Hickory Valley, sister, Linda Carothers and Andy of Texas, and grandchildren, Carson and Jake Hensley of Hickory Valley. He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Curtis Lovelady, Sr. and Betty Galloway Lovelady.

Known for his creativity and passion, Bro. Ray loved to make pottery and teach classes. He had a green thumb and enjoyed working with plants and flowers. His enthusiasm for geology took him into Memphis, where he actively pursued his interest. He found fulfillment in helping others through benevolent work within the church community, embodying the spirit of service that he valued deeply.

Bro. Ray Lovelady leaves behind a profound impact on all who knew him, remembered for his unwavering faith, commitment to service, and the love he shared with his family and community. His spirit will continue to inspire those he touched throughout his remarkable life.
