Ravon Nelson Sanders was born on February 10, 1935, in Stantonville, Tennessee, son of the late Tommy Kenneth Sanders and Mary Josie Humphries Sanders. He was a 1954 Graduate of Selmer High School and a United States Army Veteran. Nelson entered the Army on February 18, 1958, at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas, and was honorably discharged on January 31, 1964, having done service in Germany. He served for 2 years in the National Guard after his Army enlistment. He was united in marriage to Norma Jean Gilchrist on August 11, 1961. Nelson worked for Mr. Rail at the McNairy County Publishing Company (Independent Appeal) for 19 years doing the page layout for the paper. Prior to coming to the Independent Appeal, he did layout for the Adamsville Community Shopper, having worked for Leslie Houston and also Billy Wagoner. He was a member at Mt. Sharon Presbyterian Church since 1987 and also served as Elder. He loved to bar-be-que for community benefits and fundraisers and attending his grandkids ballgames and other functions.
Nelson passed from this life on Friday, July 10, 2009, at McNairy Regional Hospital in Selmer at the age of 74 years and 5 months.
Survivors are his wife Norma Jean Sanders of Adamsville; daughter, Joy J. Brown and husband David D. of Adamsville; son, Will Tom (Goose) Sanders and wife Rebecca M. of Stantonville; three grandchildren, Spencer Brown, Ravon Chaz Sanders, and Mary Kyla Sanders; a sister, Marilyn Ward of Selmer. A host of other relatives and friends.
Other than his parents, Nelson was also preceded in death by his siblings, Clara Wagoner, Dorothy Robinson, William Thomas Sanders, Roscoe Sanders, George Sanders, Shelby Sanders, and Eugene Sanders.
