Ralph Alan (Pharaoh) Fariss, age 72, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday morning July 8, 2024. Born on March 7, 1952, in Florence, Alabama, he was the son of the late Faye Hazen and Dorothy Barker Fariss. Alan, who was affectionately called Pharaoh, Big Al, and Pop, was respected and admired and a much loved husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
After graduating in 1971 from Central High School, he attended Jackson State Community College. He was then employed by the State of Tennessee as a surveyor. Alan went on to work at PCA where he retired after 38 years.
Most men are blessed with one family, but Alan was blessed with two. There was his personal family of three girls, Diane, Keshia, and Tracy, and four boys, Ben, Baylor, Fariss, and Baker. His golfing buddies were his second family. Besides being with his family, Alan loved to play golf. And, boy, was he good at it! He was known as “Mr. 57” on the course after shooting his best score. Alan loved watching UT football and any game his grandsons were playing.
As a husband and father, Alan impressed upon his girls to be honest, respectful, and above all, love God and family with all your heart. As Pop, he instilled in his grandsons to be kind to everyone and to always do your best.
Alan is survived by his wife, Diane Wray and his daughter Tracy Rasbach (Ben) of Savannah, TN, brother Eddie Fariss (Sara) of Tulsa, Ok, and sister Jeanne Belle Perry and daughter Hazen of Savannah, TN. He is also survived by his very special Aunt Helen Alexander. He leaves his three grandsons, Baylor, Fariss, and Baker Rasbach. In addition, he leaves behind a brother-in-law, Larry Wray (Debra) of Olive Branch, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will always cherish Alan’s memory.
The family respectfully and sincerely requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Daryl Worley Foundation and the Hardin County Cancer Fund and Love and Truth Church.
