Rachel Johnson was born in McNairy County, Tennessee on May 5, 1928, the daughter of the late Fellin M. and Vassie Johnson. On October 5, 1946, she was united in marriage to Mansel Bryant Johnson, who preceded her in death on January 2, 2007. Rachel departed this life on June 24, 2019, at the age of 91 years, 5 months, and 19 days.
Ms. Rachel, or Grandma Rachel, was known for her kind smile and sweet spirit. She never had a bad word to say about anyone. She lived in McNairy County before moving to Savannah with her family and settling down. She worked hard for many years at Brown Shoe Company in Selmer and Savannah and retired from Fiberglass in Jackson in her later years. She was a member of Woodmen of the World and attended many churches including Peoples Tabernacle, Sharon Baptist, Eureka, and Foursquare, where she was baptized. She loved to sew, garden, sing and play music, shop, go on trips, and visit with friends and family. Rachel was always having big holiday family gatherings at her home. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Rachel is survived by her daughters, Kathy Winborn and Pam Dickerson, both of Savannah, Tennessee; brother, Joe Johnson of Parris, Tennessee; grandchildren, Blake Brown, Julie Franks, Jennifer Phillips, Jamey Rich, Brandy Warrington, Lindy Baker, Matt Brown, and Cotey Dickerson; great grandchildren, Graham Franks, Mason Franks, Lauren Phillips, Trae Franks, Gracee Brown, Dawson Rich, Hallie Rich, Kennedy Baker, Lyddie Beth Baker, Lacey Phillips, Rylee Dickerson, Jessie Warrington, Madison Brown, and Jake Warrington; great great grandchildren, Hudson Franks and Hazel Franks.
In addition to her parents and husband, Rachel was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Kay Johnson Brown; brothers, Flowin Johnson, Willie Johnson, Paul Johnson, and RC Johnson; sister, Arlinie Johnson Dowdy; and great grandchild, Shelby Elizabeth Franks.
Services will be held on June 28, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah in Savannah, Tennessee, with Tony Polk and Dennis Usner officiating. Burial will follow in the Savannah Cemetery at Savannah, Tennessee.
