Rachel Atkinson Hines was born February 16, 1945 in McNairy County, TN, the daughter of the late J. T. Atkinson and Nellie Louise Hodge Atkinson. She lived most of her life in the Byrd Locke / Rosecreek area of McNairy County. She was top 10 Selmer High School graduate class of 1963. She had worked for Hines Cotton Gin, General Electric, H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt, RV Park Manager, Selmer Elementary and Junior High cafeterias, and SDS Accounting. She had attended Piney Grove Church of God and Sanctified Church of Christ over the years. She was united in marriage to Preston Lee Hines on June 2, 1962. Mr. Hines preceded her in death on November 19, 2002. Rachel enjoyed gardening, flowering, and had a talent for painting. Among her many interests - gardening, flowering, and painting - Rachel found her truest joy in simply being surrounded by those she held dear. Her love for family knew no bounds and illuminated every corner of her life.
Rachel departed this life on July 8, 2024 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 79 Years, 4 Months, 22 Days.
She is survived by three daughters: Regina Rhodes and husband Stuart of Divide, CO, Chris "Booge" Boleyn of Selmer, TN, LeAnne Jones and husband Brian of Selmer, TN; six grandchildren: Erin Wolfe and husband Strother of Jasper, AL, Katlyn Zimmerman and wife Tasha of Hanceville, AL, Jessica Swindle of Hoover, AL, Cody Tull and wife Brandie, Samantha Dillon, Jacob Jones; two great grandchildren, Preston Wolfe, Allana Tull; four sisters: Mary Ann Luker and husband James, Darlene Hamm and husband Jim, Janie Taylor, Freda Smith and husband Kevin; a brother, Rex Atkinson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hines was preceded in death by two sisters, Madge Newsom, Dorene Atkinson; three brothers: T. L. Atkinson, Grover Atkinson, Tunnie Atkinson; and a son-in-law, Joe Boleyn.
