Phoebe Prather was born January 20, 1938 in McNairy County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Wes and Ethel McCann Murray.
She was united in marriage to Billy Ross Prather on August 17, 1957.
Mrs. Prather was a member of Mt. Sharon Presbyterian Church in the Gilchrist community. She was a 1956 graduate of Milady Cosmetology School in Jackson, Tennessee. She was a Cosmetologist for 31 years before becoming a licensed Cosmetology Instructor in 1987. She taught at various Cosmetology schools until opening Styles and Profiles Beauty College in Selmer, on October 3, 1990, which she co-owned with her daughter, Regina, until the time of her death.
Mrs. Prather was active in various civic organizations. During her children's school years, she served as President of the Parent Teacher Organization on several occasions, as well as on other school committees. She was always willing to help her children anytime she was needed.
She served on the McNairy County School Board, and was a member of the Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology. She was also a member of the Dickson Scholarship Committee. Mrs. Prather was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, and spent her life loving God and her family.
Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Billy Prather of Selmer, TN; two daughters, Regina Jackson and husband Mike of Selmer, TN, Lori McKewen of Lake Mary , FL; a son, Ronald Prather of Selmer, TN; a sister, Janice Carroll of Selmer, TN; aunt, Mary Johnson of Selmer, TN; six grandchildren, Brad Prather and wife Britni, Barry Prather, Cole Prather, Wesley Prather, Ian McKewen and Kevin McKewen.
