Peggy Varnell, age 85, of Memphis, passed away Friday, March 11, 2016 at St. Francis of Bartlett.
A native of Adamsville, she was retired as director of nursing, having worked at the VA Hospital and several hospitals across the country. She was born November 26, 1930 to Londary Varnell and Beulah McGarity Varnell, both of whom preceded her in death, and lived in Memphis, TN, Ohio, Johnson City, TN; Montgomery, AL, St. Louis, MO, Alexandria, LA and Jackson, MS. She received her BS in Nursing from the University of Tennessee and her Master's degree from Ohio State and also was an assistant professor at ETSU. An avid Peyton Manning supporter, she also had served in the US Army Reserve Nurse Corp. Miss Varnell was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church and dearly loved her Lord.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Tucker of Carmel, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mattie Owens and Sally Brown; a brother, Willie Varnell; a half sister, Gladys Varnell; and three half brothers, Lon, Lyle and Lee Varnell.
