Peggy Townsend, 81, of Middleton, departed this life Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Bolivar General Hospital.
The wife of R. L. Townsend, who survives, she was a homemaker and had formerly worked at Lucerne and Brown Shoe Company. She was born Saturday, March 19, 1938 in Marshall County, Mississippi, daughter of the late James Woody Kizer and Ollie Mae Wilson Kizer, moving to Hardeman County after her marriage in 1955. She was well known as a "work horse", enjoying gardening, canning, working outside, being active in church and raising her grandbabies. She also enjoyed collecting Elvis memorabilia. She received her greatest fulfillment from being around her family, whom she dearly loved. Mrs. Townsend was a member of Rogers Springs Church of Christ.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar are in charge of professional arrangements.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Judy Sides (Tony) of Middleton; three sons, James Townsend (Michelle), of Walnut, MS, Jerry Townsend and Jimmy Townsend (Tammey) all of Middleton; a daughter in law, Carolyn Townsend of Middleton; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer Beavers, Jeanie McCain, Christopher Sides, J.R., Casey, Jimmy, Kristin and Brittany Townsend; and 17 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Patricia; a son, Roger Dale Townsend; and 2 brothers, Buddy and Oscar "Dicky" Kizer.
Memorial donations in her name may be sent to the Rogers Springs Church of Christ.
