Hattie M. (Peggy) Shearin, 84, of Bolivar, died Sunday, December 3, 2006 at Pine Meadows Healthcare & Rehabilitation in Bolivar.

She was born and reared in Middleton, Tennessee, the eldest of four children born to Loyd and May Etheridge Crawford. Following graduation from Middleton High School, she attended Freed-Hardeman College.

In 1943 she married Burton Shearin of Bolivar, who survives. To this union were born four children: Kenneth Shearin, who died in infancy; Arthur Shearin (Sheri) of Searcy, AR; Michael Shearin of Bolivar and Rosemarie (David) House of Frisco, TX. She is survived also by four grandchildren, Scott (Mikki) Shearin of Danville, IN; Elizabeth (Daniel) Thomason of Cabot, AR; Ashley House of Frisco, TX and Andy House of College Station, TX; and by great-grandsons Jordan, Keaton, Cameron and Aidan Shearin of Danville, IN. Her life of service centered on her roles at church and in the home. Throughout her life, she was an exceptional Christian wife and mother who toiled quietly and selflessly. As a member of the Bolivar Church of Christ for over 50 years, her greatest role was that of Sunday School teacher. She was generous in her gifts to church mission and benevolence activities. She also served for a time as a board member for Quinco mental health organization and a member of the Freed-Hardeman University Associates.
