Peggy Ann Cartwright, a beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully at her home in Bethel Springs, Tennessee, on December 26, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on October 5, 1942, in McNairy County, Tennessee, Peggy lived a life rich in love and service.
A dedicated professional, Peggy began her career as a typesetter, lending her skills to the Jackson Sun, Chester County Independent, and the Independent Appeal Newspapers over several years. Her career path later took her to the Social Security Administration, where she worked as a Service Representative for over two decades, helping countless individuals navigate the complexities of social services.
Peggy's educational journey culminated with her graduation from Bethel Springs High School in 1960. However, her contributions extended far beyond her formal education and career. She was deeply involved in her church community, sharing her musical talents with others by playing piano for several congregations. For 23 years, she played for Lakeview Baptist Church, for 9 years each at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and Maury City First Baptist Church, and for 6 years at West Shiloh Baptist Church, where she remained a member. Peggy was also an excellent cook and enjoyed sharing her culinary skills with family and friends.
Family was the cornerstone of Peggy's life. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Larry Cartwright of Bethel Springs, TN; their two sons, James (Jimmy) Cartwright and his wife Rhonda of Bethel Springs, TN, and Rickey Cartwright and his wife Judith Ann of Shelbyville, KY. Peggy was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren: Tanner Cartwright and his wife Laura, Tyler (Boo) Cartwright and his wife Cecilia, Taylor Cartwright and his wife Katherine, Travis Cartwright and his wife Hannah, Trace Cartwright and his wife Grace, Tyce Cartwright, Chandler Plunk and her husband Ethan, Spencer Cartwright, and Chloe Alexander and her husband Hunter. Additionally, she cherished her role as a great-grandmother to 24 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way, and was surrounded by a host of extended family and friends.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Ruth Henry Stout, who undoubtedly laid the foundation for her character and values.
Peggy Ann Cartwright will forever be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family, her community, and her faith. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her dearly.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
