Henderson, TN: Paul Smith Martin, age 85, passed away March 24, 2010 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was born and reared in Milledgeville, TN in Chester County, the son of the late Oscar Casey and Eula Cilisty Smith Martin. He attended schools in Chester County and graduated in 1946. He went into the U.S. Army in 1944 until 1946 and again in 1950 until 1952, serving in Europe as a gunner on 60 mm mortars. He served in two campaigns in Rhineland and Northern France. In 1953 he enlisted in the US Air Force Reserve and in 1955 was active duty in the US Air Force. In 1969 he went to Vietnam for 1 year and received 4 Battle Stars. He retired after 26 years in 1975 as a Master Sergeant working as an inventory management supervisor. He achieved status of an expert marksman.
In 1948 he married Betty Pusser of the Cabo Community. They made their home at Enville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henderson, a member of the VFW in Henderson, a member of the Chester County School Board. He loved spending time with his family and also loved to fish.
He is survived by his wife Betty Pusser Martin of Henderson; two sons, Carey Martin and wife Sarah of FL and Eric Martin and wife Dawn of TN; a daughter, Traci Argo and husband David of TN; 6 grandchildren, Stacy, Kathy, David, Jessie, Hannah and Kailey; 3 great-grandchildren, Carol, Taylor and William and a sister, Bertie Roach of TN.
