Patricia Ann Wood Mathis was born June 22nd, 1935 in Fordsville, Kentucky. Patty, the only daughter of the late Ed and Vera Wood, grew up around the Owensboro, Kentucky area with her brothers, Kenneth, Bill and twins, Follie and Wallie, where her father worked for Texas Gas Company. In 1956, Patty met a traveling telephone office installer from Tennessee, Tubby Mathis. After a whirlwind courtship, they married on August 4th, 1956. Patty traveled with Tubby until their children began school. After Allen and Debbie were grown, they once again hit the road living in a travel trailer until his retirement from Western Electric in 1983. After returning to their farm on Green River, Patty babysat her grandchildren and spent many years serving her Lord at Green River Baptist Church where she was a member. Patty worked for many years in the “Mother’s Day Out” childcare program and will always be remembered for her smile and pleasant personality. Patty was preceded in death by her parents, the late Lewis Ed and Vera Wood, her husband of over 61 years, Edward Earl “Tubby” Mathis, her brothers, Kenneth, Bill and Follie Wood and granddaughter, Lindsay Mathis Pope. Survivors, her son, Lewis Allen Mathis, wife, Nancy and daughter, Deborah Mathis Davis all of Waynesboro. Grandchildren are Bryan Pope, Lindsay’s husband, Leah Skipworth, husband, Jeremy all of Waynesboro, Katie Carroll, husband, David, Hohenwald, TN and Justin Davis, Florence, AL; brother, Wallie Wood, wife, Rosa, Greenville, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Judy Ward and a host of nieces and nephews. Patty was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren – Grace Ayers, Wesley and Ashley Davis, Jake and Ty Skipworth, Boston and Brandon Pope, Isaac Pierson and Eva Mae and Raelyn Carroll. Patty went home to be with our Lord on August 19th, 2019 at the age of 84. Funeral service will be held on August 22nd, 2019 at 11:00 am with interment in the Phillips Cemetery. Officiating at the services are Kerry Franks and Greg Eaton. Pallbearer will be Bryan Pope, Jeremy Skipworth, David Carroll, Justin and Wesley Davis and Shane Ward. Honorary pallbearers will be Jake and Ty Skipworth, Boston and Brandon Pope and Isaac Pierson. Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord for they will rest from their labor for their deeds will follow them.
