Opal Inell Smith

January 15, 1915 — May 1, 2009

Mrs. Smith died Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Bolivar General Hospital.



A native and life-long resident of Hardeman County, she was the daughter of the late Luther Theodore and Mattie Hammers McCarley. She married Willard Jessie Smith on July 4, 1935 and he died September 18, 2007. She was a past member of the New Union Baptist Church and currently a member at Bolivar First Baptist Church. She worked at the Bolivar Central High School cafeteria for 25 years, retiring as supervisor. Her hobbies included a love for gardening.



Her survivors are a daughter, Maxine (Al) Christy of Dayton, OH; a son, Luther (Barbara) Smith of Bolivar; a sister, Pauline Armstrong of Bolivar; 7 grandchildren Gary (Carole) Smith, Cindy (Richard) Hazelwood, Caroline (Donald) Vandiver and Todd (Lori Fry) Smith all of Bolivar, Tim (Angie) Smith of Jonesborough, TN; Dave Pelsor of Knoxville and Mike (Jennifer) Pelsor of Dayton, OH; 14 great-grandchildren, Zach and Josh Pelsor of Knoxville, Taylor Pelsor of Dayton, OH, Erin (Bryan) Piefer, Bo (Melissa) Hazelwood, Tyler Hazelwood and Chad (Mandy) Vandiver, all of Bolivar, Nathaniel (Jennifer) Smith and Julie Smith, of Jonesborough, TN, Jessie, Hunter and Syndey Smith, all of Memphis, Brigitte (Dusty) Taylor of San Angelo, TX and Lakin Lomax; and 4 great-great-grandchildren, Maddy and Emmy Piefer of Bolivar; Macy Caroline and Isabella Taylor of San Angelo, TX.
