Opal Pleasant

OPAL PLEASANT

was born in Fulton, Mississippi on April 9, 1922, the son of the late Fred and Mittie Ann Pleasant.

On February 5, 1971, he was united in marriage to Katherine Alley Patterson Pleasant, who survives.

Mr. Pleasant was a pipe fitter at Johnson Controls in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for more than fifty years. He served in the United States Army and was also a World War II veteran. He was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Savannah, Tennessee for over twenty years. In more recent years, he has attended Riverview Baptist in Savannah, Tennessee with family. Mr. Pleasant had a love for collecting arrow heads, working in his yard, telling jokes, and playing cards. He was an avid Alabama football fan and had great adoration for the Atlanta Braves. He found joy in sharing prayer, Biblical wisdom, and Godly advice with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He departed this life on July 11, 2016 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 94 years, 3 months and 2 days.

Mr. Pleasant is survived by his wife of 45 years, Katherine, of Savannah, Tennessee; one daughter, Kathy Patterson Petty and husband Danny of Savannah, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Mitzi Knight, Tandi Tilson and husband Shane, Traci Melson and husband Jimmie, Chipp Petty and wife Tabitha, and Marci Petty; all of Savannah, Tennessee; eight great-grandchildren, Cade Knight, Aidan Melson, Sarah Katherine Tilson, Langdan Melson, Rylan Melson, Marianna Melson, Milo Petty, and Matti Tilson; all of Savannah, Tennessee.

In addition to his parents; he was also preceded in death by one sister, Edith Umphers, and two brothers, Hollis Pleasant and Dan Pleasant.
