Oliver Yeargan was a true gentleman with a gracious personality and faced all adversity with everlasting faith and utmost dignity. He was born in Rutherford County to Oliver B. Yeargan and Eudie Snell Yeargan, August 18, 1919. His wife of 62 years, Mary Lou Wilkerson Yeargan preceded him in death in 2005.
Oliver graduated from Central High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee in 1938 and went to work for Ragland Potter Company in Nashville. One year later, he transferred to Jackson, Tennessee where he worked until entering the service of the U.S. Army, 88th Infantry Division. After his tour of duty, he worked in health and beauty aids for several years and then returned to Ragland Potter until it was sold to Sysco Foods where he was a salesman until he retired in 1984.
After retirement, he and Mary Lou enjoyed many years on their boat, entertaining family and friends, fishing, hunting and traveling. He was a very faithful member of Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church and the Memorial Sunday School Class. He delivered meals on wheels, served on the Administrative Board, the Board of Trustees, and various committees in the church. He was always helping friends and neighbors.
In addition to his parents and his loving wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, the Reverend HilaryYeargan, Edmund Yeargan and Raymond Yeargan. He is survived by one sister, Connie B. McGehee and her husband Everett of Murfreesboro and several nieces and nephews.
