NILA HUNTER
Henderson, TN: Nila June Pendergraft Hunter age 82 passed away Saturday afternoon February 27, 2016 at Convenient Medical Center in Lubbock, TX.
She was born July 17, 1933 in Canadian, TX the daughter of the late Thomas Lafette and Florence Patterson Pendergraft. She graduated high school in Canadian, TX and married Royce Hunter on February 24, 1962 in Amarillo. They moved to Lubbock in 1963 and Nila received her Associates Degree from Lubbock Christian University and her RN license from the Methodist School of Nursing. She worked as a school nurse at Hockley County Schools. Upon the birth of her twin grandsons, Nila retired to be available to move and assist with their care. They had made their home in Lubbock, and a summer home in Henderson, since 1992. She was a long time member of Broadway and Sunset Church of Christ in Lubbock, TX.
Royce and Nila celebrated their 54th Anniversary February 24, 2016.
Mrs. Hunter is survived by her husband, Royce Freeman Hunter; two daughters, Merle Lynn “Missy” Hunter of Smyrna, TN and Lisa Suzanne Schaeper and husband Steve of Lafayette, IN; two grandsons, Nathan and Justin Schaeper of Lafayette, IN; two sister-in-law’s, Betty and Marcia Pendegraft both of Amarillo and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Tom and Jack Pendergraft.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, March 4, 2016 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Roy Sharp and Billy Joe Naylor officiating. Burial will follow in Chester County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Casey chapel 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday.
