Newana Vires was born May 19, 1923 in McNairy County, near Finger, the daughter of the late Calvin Troy Davis and Annie Florence Plunk Davis. She was united in marriage to J. T. Vires who preceded her in death on July 3, 1998. Mrs. Vires was a Homemaker . She was a member of the Maggie Jones United Methodist Church and sung for many years in her family's Davis gospel quartet. Mrs. Vires was affectionately known as "GrannyYodles" in the McNairy County Hee Haw cast. She loved gardening and flowers.Mrs. Vires departed this life on November 6, 2010 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 87 Years, 5 Months, 18 Days.She is survived by two daughters, Freda Locke and husband Dwight of Selmer, TN, Kay Newman of Selmer, TN; two sons, Nicky Vires and wife Wanda of Finger, TN, Joey Vires of Harrison, AR; a sister, Charlene McNair of Finger, TN; eight grandchildren, Kim Hegenheiser, Chris Vires, Gina Foret, Samantha Finley, Daniel Vires, Tegan Burks, Ryan Vires, Jessie Vires; thirteen great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Vires was preceded in death by two sons, Dizzy Vires, Jerry Vires; three brothers, Charles Davis, James Kermit Davis, Raymond Davis.
