N. A. (Poe) Younger was born December 16, 1923 in McNairy County, Tennessee the son of the late George Washington and Ercie Younger.He was united in marriage to Jo Ann Barnes Hamm on December 23, 1978. Mrs. Younger preceded him in death on May 7, 2006. Mr. Younger was a retired farmer and worker for the McNairy County Highway Department, and was a bus driver for the McNairy County School System. He was a Baptist in belief. Mr. Younger served in the United States Army 5th Ranger Battalion from 1943-45. He participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy where he was wounded, receiving the Purple Heart and 4 Bronze Battle Stars with Oak Leaf Clusters. Mr. Younger departed this life on September 16, 2007 in Walnut, Mississippi at the age of 83 Years, 9 Months, 6 Days. He is survived by three step-daughters: Cindy Wilbanks and husband Wade of Walnut, MS, Sherry Hamm of Corinth, MS and Carol McGee of Walnut, MS; a son, Doug Hamm and wife Carolyn of Ramer, TN; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Younger was preceded in death by three step-sons, Darrell Hamm, David Hamm and Teddie Joe Hamm Jr.; and a sister, Altha (Younger) Sweat.
