Mildred Shields passed away November 29, 2022, in Jackson, TN, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 9, 1932, in Hardin County to the late Willis Autman and Bessie Essary Martin. She spent the early years of her life in Hardin and Chester counties and moved to Bolivar in 1970. Mildred was a dedicated worker and spent the last 30 years of her career as a Psychiatric Technician at Western Mental Health before retiring in 1994.
Mildred married Hubert Shields in 1978; each considering the other’s family as their own. Hubert preceded her in death in 1999. She enjoyed time in her garden tending to her flowers and was a faithful member of Parran’s Chapel Baptist Church. Mildred’s family was the love of her life as she adored her 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren along with Hubert’s family. All of Mildred’s family consider her to be a role model of Christian faith, and anyone who met her felt her kind spirit through her sweet smile.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Jerry Lynn Cothren and his wife Judy of Henderson, TN; son, Michael Ray Cothren and his wife Rita of Henderson, TN; daughter Loyce Ann Brown and her husband Wayne of Bolivar; daughter Lisa Marie Lawrence and her husband John of Memphis, TN; sister Shirley Struble and her husband Doug of Savannah, TN; a sister in law, Bonice Martin of Henderson and stepdaughters Vicki Head of Denton, Texas and Patricia Berkley and her husband Buddy of Pinson, TN.
Preceding her in death were infant son Tommy Guy, grandson Christopher Brown, great grandsons Baby Joel and Samuel Justus Pearl, brother Billy Wayne Martin and niece, Debbie Martin, nephew, Travis Moore and stepchildren, Joe Shields, Debbie McAlpin, and Tracy Burnett.
