Mrs. Mildred Florence Sanders Goodrum, age 97, of Bolivar, departed this life on Palm Sunday, April 2, 2023, at the home of her grandson near Medon, TN.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 4, 2023, in the Shackelford Chapel in Bolivar with burial to follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. The visitation is Tuesday from 1 – 3 pm at the funeral home.
She was born October 25, 1925 to the late Carl Otto and Madgie Florence Hooper Sanders and lived all of her life in Hardeman and McNairy Counties. On February 7, 1942, she was united in marriage to Mr. Clarence B. Goodrum, Sr. Their union continued until his death, 64 years later, on June 21, 2006.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Clarence B. Goodrum, Jr.; six sisters, Ethel Lou and Katherine Sanders, Tempie Alice Cox, Sadie Fowler, Carlene Williamson and Ruth Flanders; and four sons-in-law, Ralph Donald Pierce, James Anthony Stack, Ricky Lynn Overton and Larry Dean Daniel.
Mrs. Goodrum was employed at Kilgore Corporation, in Toone, for 19 years and was also a homemaker. She was an active and faithful member of the Bolivar Church of God where she served as church clerk for many years under several pastors. She also was treasurer and sent cards to church members on special occasions.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, especially her Bible, planting her garden every spring and summer, and setting out flowers and fruit trees. A very artistic lady, she wrote many poems, was a songwriter and enjoyed quilting. She gave away over 100 quilts to family and friends over the course of her lifetime.
She leaves three daughters, Jewell Goodrum Horner (Jim) of Dyersburg, Janet Goodrum Stack of Hornsby and, Janie Goodrum Overton of Bolivar; a daughter-in-law, Linda Goodrum of Hornsby; 13 grandchildren, April Overton, Amy Cleek (Andy), Jeannie Goodrum, Becky Weaver (Luke), Debbie Young (Joe), Crystal Gibson (Steve), Larry Horner, Clay Stack (Anna), Clint Stack (Kellie), Brian Overton, Matt Goodrum (Jennifer), Justin Goodrum (Lydia) and Ben Goodrum (Kaila); and 39 great-grandchildren with “one on-the-way”.
