Michael “Mike” William Taylor passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022 due to cardiac arrest. He was 74 years old.
Mike was born August 22, 1947 in Georgetown, Texas, but grew up in Avery Island, Louisiana. Following his high school graduation, Mike enlisted in the Army and served 3 tours of Vietnam. Following the war, he worked as a State Trooper in Louisiana and as the Governor’s bodyguard for the remainder of his State Trooper career. After retiring as a State Trooper, Mike attended Columbia Southern University and studied Environmental Health and Safety Protection. He worked as a safety engineer for various companies throughout West Texas and Southern New Mexico. He traveled frequently for work, including all 50 states and 26 countries. He was most recently working in Monahans, Texas until he retired and moved to Selmer, Tennessee in 2020.
Mike is survived by his wife, Rebecca Jean Griffin Taylor, his stepchildren Wendy Horton, Elizabeth (Alex) Kraus and William Horton; and his daughters Melissa Taylor and Christy Taylor; along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mike was a devoted member of Court Avenue Cumberland Presbyterian and served as an Elder and Sunday School teacher. He shared sermons and his love for Jesus and his family throughout social media. If you knew Mike, you knew he loved taking pictures, sharing stories and talking about great deals. We know Mike is sharing stories with Jesus.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Court Avenue Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Selmer, TN. Visitation will start at 2:00 pm with the Memorial Service starting at 3:00 pm. A reception to celebrate his life will be held immediately following the service.
