Michael Ray "Mack" Spradlin departed this life on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at the age of 72 years, 5 months, and 6 days. He was born in Woodland, Alabama, on August 24, 1946, the son of the late Robert Young Spradlin and Gussie Olga Adams Spradlin. On March 26, 1982, he was united in marriage to Laura Haynes, who survives.
Mack was a member of Crump Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1964 until his honorable discharge in 1970. During his enlistment, he served three tours in Vietnam. Mack retired from American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL) where he was an engineer, he had been with the company for over 30 years. He loved fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren whom he loved dearly. All children were drawn to this "gentle giant" who was big in stature, but gentle in spirit.
Mack is survived by his wife of 36 years, Laura Haynes Spradlin of Savannah, Tennessee; daughters, Tina Tyler and her husband Craig of Savannah, Tennessee, Brandi Sharit and her husband Zack of Adamsville, Tennessee, Jennifer Copeland and her husband Michael of Savannah, Tennessee, and Christa Pilkinton and her husband Luke of Savannah, Tennessee; grandchildren, Anna Copeland, Seth Copeland, Laura Ann Pilkinton, Kinsley Sharit, and Paul Robert Pilkinton, who all adored their "Pappa"; brothers, Harvey Spradlin of Knoxville, Tennessee, Ronnie Spradlin and his wife Joyce of Tuscaloosa, Alabama , Doyce Spradlin of Woodland, Alabama, Donnie Spradlin of Woodland, Alabama, Dan Mallette and his wife Diane of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Don Mallette and his wife Denise of Jackson, Tennessee, and Karl Mallette of Savannah, Tennessee; sisters, Ramona Wilkerson and her husband Ronnie of Savannah, Tennessee, and Marie Hurst and her husband Terry of Selmer, Tennessee; stepsisters, Scarlett Heard of Woodland, Alabama and Berna McNeal of Franklin, Georgia; as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews who all have special memories of spending time with him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Young Spradlin, Jr., John Spradlin, and Danny Spradlin; sisters, Margie Spradlin and Mildred Spradlin; stepbrother, Wayne Hendrix; and Jack C. and Betty S. Mallette, the parents who raised him.
