Merle V. Weatherford

Merle V. Gibson Weatherford was born December 18, 1913 in Enville, Tennessee the daughter of the late Pony and Lelia B. Kirby Gibson. She was united in marriage to Olen K. Weatherford on December 24, 1936. Mr. Weatherford preceded her in death on August 22, 1979.Mrs. Weatherford was a retired School Teacher for the McNairy County Board of Education. She had been a member of the Fourth Street church of Christ since 1943, and a volunteer for numerous organizations including the McNairy County General Hospital Auxillary, where she amassed 10,405 hours; The American Cancer Society for 17 years; The American Red Cross for 10 years; and Advocates For Peaceful Homes for 8 years. She also served the Fourth Street congregation as church secretary for 26 years. To highlight her years of volunteer service, Mrs. Weatherford was chosen as McNairy County Citizen of the Year in 1999. Mrs. Weatherford departed this life on August 10, 2007 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 93 Years, 7 Months, 23 Days. She is survived by four sons: Gene Weatherford of Harvest, Alabama, Roger Weatherford of Selmer, Tennessee, Neal Weatherford of Olive Branch, Mississippi and Fred Weatherford of Silverdale, Washington; 9 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Weatherford was also preceded in death by three sisters: Jewell Barnes, Faye Sipes and Janice Rogers.
