Mrs. Melba Jacobs Stewart, age 93 of Middleton, Tennessee, passed from this life Tuesday evening, June 14, 2016 at her home.
A lifelong resident of Middleton, Mrs. Stewart was born Tuesday, August 1, 1922 to the late Wickliffe Wilburn and Lola Elizabeth Strickland Jacobs. She graduated from Middleton High School with the class of 1941, and in that same year, on Saturday, August 16, she was married to Mr. Thomas Neal Stewart, who preceded her in death February 10, 1997. She worked as a homemaker and enjoyed many things, including gardening, sewing, crafting with things she found in nature, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren. She always said she "did the best she could" and her family describes her as devoted, industrious and creative. She was a member of the South Middleton Church of Christ.
She is survived by her daughter, Sallye Leath and husband Henry of Germantown; son, James "Joe Bill" Stewart of Middleton; brother, Enloe Jacobs of Memphis; sister, Elizabeth Collier of Memphis; sister-in-law, Dean Jacobs of Jackson; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, including Rodney Leath (Patti), Cindy Wright (Shannon), Vickie Richardson (Jeff), Joe Stewart, Angela McQueen (Ronnie), Kristie Wilson (Jody), Kerri Baker (Chris), and Sara Stewart.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Jerry Stewart and Dwight Stewart.
