Mazell Hurst Riley was born July 2, 1914 in McNairy County, Tennessee the daughter of the late Sinnett Finley and Mary Euphie Russom Hurst.
She was united in marriage to Alton Riley on January 9, 1930. Mr. Riley preceded her in death on February 26, 1982.
Mrs. Riley was a homemaker, and was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in McNairy.
Mrs. Riley departed this life on February 20, 2007 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 92 Years, 7 Months, 18 Days. She is survived by a daughter, Madine Riley Knight of Selmer, Tennessee; a foster son, Robert W. Moore of Nashville, Tennessee; a brother, Elmer Marcus Hurst and wife Estalene of Corinth, Mississippi; eight grandchildren: Anthony Eugene Knight and wife Tammy, Lisa Kim Whitten and husband Jeff, Timothy Lee Knight and wife Leann, Larry Benjamin Payne and wife Tina, all of Selmer, Tennessee; Shauna Marie Meadows and husband Scott of Pinson, Tennessee; Stacy Alton Riley and wife Pam of McNairy, Tennessee; Jeffrey Keith Payne and wife Camey of Evansville, Indiana; and Aubrey Harris and wife Bridgette of McNairy, Tennessee; a son-in-law, Larry Payne of Bethel Springs, Tennessee; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Harris Riley of McNairy, Tennessee; a previous daughter-in-law, Ester Riley Newton of McNairy, Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Maxine Hurst Burcham of Corinth, Mississippi; 14 great- grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and spouse, Mrs. Riley was also preceded in death by a son, Bennett Alton Riley; a daughter, Cheri Phyllis Payne; a twin brother,Odell Hurst; 4 sisters: Gazelle Hurst McDaniel, Venice May Hurst, Liddie Irene Jarnigan and Martha Thelma Cooper; a brother, Hester Dee Hurst; and a son-in-law, Eugene Knight.
