Maxine Kemp was born September 3, 1920 in Hardin County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Homer and Gertrude Palmer. On October 20, 1956, she was united in marriage to Willie Aubrey Kemp, who preceded his wife in death on January 13, 1986.
Mrs. Kemp attended Living Waters Foursquare Church. She was active in the local VFW for many years and attended Hardin County Senior Citizens Center for several years where she enjoyed visiting with her friends. Maxine loved to travel and stayed in good health until age 97. She was able to drive her beloved 1977 Buick LaSabre car until age 93 and loved to square dance at all the family dances she attended. Maxine was an avid domino player and even at the age of 94 could defeat her much younger grandchildren in the game of "Scrabble". Her childen and grandchildren often referred to her as "The Road Runner". She loved animals; especially her favorite pet, a chihuahua named "Bo" and the beloved family dog, "Big Dog". Her greatest love was her family and she was very proud of her children and grandchildren.
Maxine Kemp departed this life on October 4, 2019 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 99 years, 1 month, and 1 day.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lois Thrasher Haggard of Savannah, Tennessee; son, William Hershel Thrasher and his wife Karen of Shelbyville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Linda Haggard Franks and her husband Roger, Dean Blake Haggard and his wife Jeannie, William Lee Thrasher and his wife Amanda, and Leslie Virginia Thrasher McAnally and her husband Chad; 15 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mable Gray; brothers, Roy Palmer and Troy Palmer; and great great granddaughter Erica Haggard.
