Maxine Hardin Handley
was born on March 27, 1933 in Wayne County, Tennessee the daughter of the late Viola Smith Hardin Hames and Dick Hardin, Jr.
She was united in marriage to A. J. Handley, Jr., who preceded her in death on February 18, 1996.
Mrs. Handley worked in insurance and monument sales, where she did bookkeeping and secretarial work. She was a member of the Savannah Foursquare Church. Mrs. Handley was also the organist for the Savannah Foursquare Church.
She departed this life on December 29, 2005 at the Hardin County Nursing Home at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 2 days.
She is survived by a son, Bobby J. Handley of Mobile, Alabama;
3 daughters: Debbie Duncan and her husband, Cary, Sr.,
Nancy Russel and her husband, Joel,
and Pam Carothers and her husband, Tim, all of Savannah;
5 grandchildren: Cary Duncan, Jr., Kelly Meeks, Sarah Barber, John Russell and Andrew Russell;
3 step-grandchildren: Chris Carothers, Tara Watts and Wendi Nix;
2 great-grandchildren: John Wesley Russell and Matthew Meeks;
6 step-great-grandchildren: Seth Simpson, Jillian Carothers, Katy Carrol Nix, Cole Nix, Chloe Nix and Caroline Nix;
2 sisters: Kathryn Flippo of Jackson, Tennessee and Sue Nell Pinson of Savannah;
and 2 brothers: Billy Dan Hames of Florence, Alabama and James Hardin of Savannah.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Hardin.
