Maurine Seaton Talley, age 88, died, Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at the emergency room of Jackson General Hospital.
Mrs. Talley was born and reared in the Friendship Community of Chester County, the daughter of the late Frank Lamar Seaton, Sr. and Cora Peddy Seaton. She graduated from Chester County High School in 1935. She received an associate’s degree from Freed-Hardeman College and then received her degree in education from Bethel College, and her Master’s in Special Education from Memphis State University. Freed-Hardeman University bestowed an honorary Doctorate of Laws degree on Mrs. Talley in 1997.
She was married to Joe Clint Talley in 1938 and they lived all their married life in the Talley Community of Chester County. She and Mr. Talley owned and operated the Talley Country Store for over 40 years. Mr. Talley died September 30th of this year.
Mrs. Talley taught in the one room school houses, teaching grades 1 through 8 in various schools across the county. After consolidation she taught special education at East Elementary and Chester County Junior High, having taught school for over 50 years.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Chester County retired teacher’s association.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Henderson where she had taught in the children’s Sunday school department for many years.
She is survived by a daughter, Joan Talley Marberry and husband Larry of Pinson; a grand daughter, Andrea Leigh Moody and husband Jeff of Jackson; and a great grandchild; Jackson Lee Moody.
Mrs. Talley is also survived by two brothers; F. L. Seaton, Jr. of Henderson and George Seaton and wife Donna of San Bernardino, CA and two sisters; Velma Sells of Henderson and Allene Frix of Memphis. She was preceded in death by three brothers; Willard Seaton, Hubert Seaton, and Joe Neal Seaton, and three sisters; Clara Mae Seaton, Catherine Johnson, and Nola Webb.
Mrs. Talley is also survived by three special sisters-in-laws; Tylene Seaton, Melba Seaton, and Loraine Reddin. She also has a special nephew Dossie Talley and a special niece Jo Ann VanCleave who were both very attentive to Mr. and Mrs. Talley.
Pallbearers to serve will be Dossie Talley, Dwain Seaton, Billy Joe Seaton, Terry Seaton, John Webb and Jeff Moody.
